Halal Dining Singapore : Ngee Ann City

Ngee Ann City Shopping Centre is a huge shopping centre with high end designer boutiques such as Burberry, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and mid range boutiques such as Warehouse and Mango etc.. I don't really go there to shop as I get a headache just thinking about which direction to go. I usually just go there for Kinokuniya at #03-09 though window shopping at The Better Kids Decor Store #04-20C is always fun too.

If you are thinking about where to eat in Ngee Ann City that is halal, there are a few options:
  • Breeks Cafe (American Style) at #05-11
  • Malay Food at Food Village @ B1
  • McDonalds at #B1-01/02/03
  • Pepes Indonesian Restaurant at #04-16
  • Seoul Garden (Korean) at #05-10
A word of advice, if you are eating in any food court in Singapore, Nasi Padang does not necessarily means halal food, sometimes the owners are non-muslims chinese and they only hire a muslim lady as the front helper, so you need to check if they are halal-certified by Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).

Today, we decided to give Pepes Indonesian Restaurant a try. (How long had Sanur closed down?) Food was ok, if you are in the area and need a nice place to eat a proper meal. But if I am not in the area, I don't think I'll be going there specially to eat. Most dishes cost about SGD13.90 and above and the most expensive dish is the Grilled Fish at about SGD32++

This was what we had...

The complimentary crackers

A bit too thick and over-fried to me, the sambal is nice though.

Tahu Telor
Very crispy on the outside and soft inside, but the sauce is not very generous and where is the nuts?

Pepes Ikan - Fish Filet with Coconut and Spices

Tasted a bit like otah-otah.. Sanur's Pepes Ikan was nicer.

Cumi Bakar - Grilled Squid

This was the best dish that we ordered.

Sop Buntut
 Nice and wholesome, slurp..

Jus Alpukat - Avocado Juice

A must have in any Indonesian Restaurant for me. This one is not sweet but a bit too thick for me.

If you are checking out Food Village at B1, the only halal stall that I saw that day was the Malay Cuisine Stall, but you may want to check again whether there's any halal certified Indian Stall there.

Malay Cuisine NOT Nasi Padang

If you want to perform your prayers the Alfalah Mosque is nearby, within a walking distance.

If you don't want to walk and don't mind the cramped space, there is a makeshift surau (prayer area) at B1, please watch this video even if you don't understand the language.
