Istanbul Kebab: A nearer view of the menu

On one of the days in Hong Kong, I decided to check out the fabric market at Sham Shui Po, so we had our lunch at Dragon Centre @ 37K Yen Chow Street. Dragon Centre has a more local feel to it, its like the suburb's shopping mall and Istanbul Kebab is located at 8th Floor in a food court much like in Singapore.

At first, we thought that Istanbul Kebab is a restaurant on its own, so we went round and round searching for it, but on closer inspection of the food stalls numbers, we realize that Istanbul Kebab is just one stall of the many stalls in that food court. Hmm.. you really feel like you are in a shopping mall in Singapore taking a break from the shopping at the food court. Slowly, you began to notice how much Singapore imitates Hong Kong.

Halal Food at Hong Kong: Turkish Salad @ Istanbul Kebab

Halal Food Hong Kong: Sultan Kebab With Rice @ Istanbul Kebab

Food here is very cheap, in fact this meal is the cheapest meal we had in Hong Kong costing HKD140 for the 4 of us. We had turkish salad (As I didn't know my main meal came with a salad side), sultan kebab with rice, chicken doner with rice and cheese pide. Drinks were mineral water and Minute Maid.

Muslim Food in Hong Kong: Cheese Pide @ Istanbul Kebab

The turkish salad was refreshingly different with the slightly funky cheese and preserved olives and cabbages adding an interesting flavour to it. I actually ate preserved olives the first time in Hong Kong; of all places! The Sultan Kebab with rice comes with either chicken or lamb in tomato based gravy. The rice was too soft and a bit on the glutinous side. I find the gravy doesn't really go with rice, maybe it is better paired with a potato side. My chicken doner (if my memory serves me right) was tender mildly marinated grilled chicken with yoghurt and mint dressing, the salad side adds a crunch to the dish but I didn't touch the grilled tomatoes and green chili. Cheese pide was delicious soft, and the cheese mild and not overpowering. All in all, a satisfying and very affordable meal. With our stomach full, its off to Ki Lung St for some fabric hunting then!
