Day 6 in Hong Kong and Halal Indian Restaurant No 3 : By this time we are pretty much sick of Indian food in Hong Kong but if you are staying at East Tsim Sha Tsui (i.e. near Shang Ri La, Inter Continental Grand Stanford, Hotel Nikko and those around the area) or if you are around the area cos your man just have to get some tailored shirts or suits at Houston Centre which Hong Kong is famous for, then The New Sangeet Indian Restaurant at Toyo Mall, Intercontinental Plaza is a very convenient place to eat halal indian food. It helps that they also serve lunch sets and also lunch buffet. The indian lunch buffet costs the same as The Great Indian Kebab Factory at Miramar Shopping Centre (opposite Mira Hotel) at HKD 98 per person.
This time around, we did not opt for the buffet since we just want to alleviate our hunger pangs and don't think we can stuff ourselves silly with Indian food without throwing up already. So, we ordered ala-carte though the prices of the ala-carte dishes make you kind of wish that you opt for the buffet instead. I didn't see the set lunch promotion until I was editing the pictures for this post. Hmm.. would have opted for that instead since HKD 48 seems quite reasonable but I am not sure what dishes the set lunch consist of and it is only served from 12.00pm - 2.00pm.

The exterior of Toyo Mall may not be spanking new and the tenants are also basically small shops. Even the entrance of The New Sangeet Indian Restaurant looks very humble. But, inside the indian restaurant, it is spacious and quite comfortable.

We ordered our usual, butter naans, pilaf rice, butter chicken and lamb masala ( I think! or is it Lamb Vindaloo?) The butter naans was buttery but thin and on the crispy side. My kiddo ate 3 slices as we were going to bribe him with a trip to the toy shop (hot toys) at Mong Kok after picking up Mr Hubby's shirts at Houston Centre. Pilaf rice was fluffy but bland in my opinion, even with the dried fruits and nuts, you can still taste that something is lacking. Butter chicken was smooth but non-descript and the lamb? yes, I can't remember its name nor its taste.. As for the drinks, masala tea was pretty ok, but mango lassi was ordinary.

Our verdict after eating at New Sangeet Indian Restaurant is that the dishes are unmemorable and actually tasted very mild as if it has been altered to suit the not-so-spicy-tastebuds. And when you look around the restaurant, you do realize that the majority of its customers are non-indians. When we were having lunch, one table was occupied by a group of 4 Caucasian men and about 4 other tables are occupied by local Chinese. Oh well, at least our stomach are pacified :) Off to pick up the shirts and then Mong Kok here we come!
