KL Kids Day Out: Titiwangsa Lake Garden

A new year in KL..with kids.. it's been two years living in KL and I am still trying to find new places for my kids to play in KL. We've done the indoor playground in Mid Valley Mega Mall and Ikano Power Centre though have yet to try out the new kids play at The Curve Shopping Centre (might wait until the holiday period is over and there is less crowd to jostle with) and are waiting (im)patiently for Kidzania at Curve Annex to open!

Frankly, sometimes I do scratch my head thinking of activities for my kids to do in KL but I do realize that I have not fully explored this big city yet so, my new year resolution for 2012 is to explore as much new kids places in KL as possible *excited mode* I am looking forward to a fun year with my two boys in KL :)

We started the new year with a (long overdue) visit to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa (Titiwangsa Lake Garden) the place is huge to say the least, parking was a bit difficult to get as it was a public holiday nevertheless the place is big enough for crowds on a public holiday as at least we were not elbowing other people as we would in a shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur and our kids have lots of space to run about.

Activities for Kids in KL : Titiwangsa Lake

We were there specifically for the kids to expend their energy and to check out the horse riding activity. Unfortunately, we parked at the wrong side of the park, so we had to walk a bit to the stable and we were too far away from the water sports area. We could see some people boat pedalling from afar and there seemed to be a carnival going on at the other side of the lake judging from the tents and loud music.

The water at Titiwangsa Lake

The water at Titiwangsa Lake was surprisingly clear. We could see the plants under the water and it was a new sight for my kids. We didn't spot any fish though. There were lots of families having a picnic, cycling, throwing frisbee and kicking ball. It was a lovely place to be with the kids.

A short walk down and we arrived at the horse riding area. At first, we only wanted to see the horse since my 3 yo is not up for horseback riding at his age but we were pleasantly surprised to see that they also offer drawn carriage rides at a cheaper price (RM1.00 per round for adults and RM0.50 per round for kids) That is so cheap! It costed me SGD10.00 for a round of pony ride in Singapore (for kids), here my kid can go more than 20 rounds haha! We payed RM3.00 for a round of horse carriage ride for the four of us (hubby, myself and the two kids) and my kids both love it. My scaredy son finally get to try riding a horse (carriage) and he loved looking at the scenery, at the sand that got stirred up by the horse's hooves, at the shadow of the horse and the carriage. My second son loved it so much that he didn't want to get down. He kept saying "horse.. horse..where's the horse mummy?"

It was quite lucky that we went to Tasik Titiwangsa (Titiwangsa Lake) on a public holiday or else the horse riding activity may not be offered. It is only offered during weekends and public holidays 9.00am-12.00pm and 3.00pm-6.00pm. Luckily, our trip there was not in vain.

Operation Hours Of Horse Riding Activities

After that, it was some snack time at the snack bar and the kids had fun dancing (my 3yo) and pretending to be a dinosaur (my 20 mo) on a pavillion by the lake while waiting for the snack. I had to carry my 20 mo out of the pavillion as he refused to go after we were done. He cried all the way to the car and after walking to the car carrying the 16kg boy (who was tired after running and dancing in the park) and the 12kg boy (who if put down will go running back to the pavillion) we were too tired to drive to the water play area.

KL Kids Play : Stomping like a dinosaur at Titiwangsa Lake

So, even though I heard that Titiwangsa Lake Garden offers boat pedalling, kayaking, fishing, radio car track racing, gymnasium, playgrounds and other exciting stuffs. These activities will have to wait for our next Titiwangsa Lake Garden trip for another fun play with our KL kids :)

Titiwangsa Lake may be more to local recreational area rather than a touristy place in KL, but it may be a place to consider when you are thinking of Kuala Lumpur kids activities as there's fresh air, greenery and lots of space which is way better than an indoor playground especially so when it's flu and cough season.
