Fish Ball Soup - Menu Kanak-Kanak

fshball soup
Simple Comfort Food : Fish ball soup

This is a simple fish ball soup with tofu recipe that I always love. Today, I decided to throw in some celery and I just love the refreshing taste the sweet and juicy celery adds to the clear soup. Jotting down the recipe so that it won't get lost in my cluttered mind :)

Fish Ball Soup Recipe:

1 packet of fish balls
1 pack of soft tofu - cut into 4-6 large cubes
1/2 onion (medium sized)
 3 cloves of garlic
2 tbsp of dried shrimps (soak in water for 5-10 mins then drained)
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp fish oil
1 large potato - cubed
some sliced carrots
1 stalk celery - roughly chopped slanting
4 bowls of water

How to cook fish ball soup:

1. Blend the onion, garlic and dried shrimps.
2. Heat up the wok and add in the vegetable oil and fish oil. Saute the blended ingredients.
3. Add in the cubed potatoes and sliced carrots till 70% cooked.
4. Add 4 bowls of water then put in the fish balls and celery. Cover the wok till fish ball is cooked.
5. Add in the soft tofu, wait until the soup simmers and turn off the heat.

Bahasa Melayu Prasekolah " Mari Membaca Bersama"

Bahasa Melayu Prasekolah : Cadangan Aktiviti Di  Setiap Lembaran Pertama

Asian Noodle Recipe : Fried Udon

fried udon recipe
Fried Udon - Malaysian Style

(Untuk Bahasa Melayu, Sila Skrol Ke Bawah)

This is a simple stir fried udon recipe that my mom used to cook for breakfast. I am using seafood here since I am trying not mix chicken with seafood in one dish, though I personally think that chicken fillet strips goes well with this too.

Fried Udon Recipe:

400 gm udon
10 medium size fresh prawns
2 medium sized squids
6 cloves garlic
about 4-5 inch ginger
1 1/2 celery stick - thinly sliced
1/2 carrot - thinly sliced
1 tbsp fish sauce
2 - 3 tbsp light soya sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
salt
pinch of black pepper
about 3/4 cup water
vegetable oil to saute

How To Cook Fried Udon:

1. Using a mortar pestle, pound the garlic and ginger (if you are going old school, you can also just use a blender).
2. Heat up some vegetable oil (maybe about 2-3 tbsp) in a pan and saute the garlic and ginger.
3. Add in fish sauce, light soya sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper and salt.
4. Add in the carrots, stir till the carrots are done the way you like it.
5. Stir in the prawns then the squids.
6. Add in the celery just before the udon.
7. Add in the water and the udon, let the udon absorbs the sauce until desired "dryness" of fried udon is achieved. (I prefer it to have a bit of running sauce and not too dry).
8. Serve hot and garnish with chopped chinese celery and spring onion and bird's eyes chilies.

Malay Version:

Resepi Masakan Mee Udon:

1/2 lobak merah - hiris memanjang
1 sdm  sos ikan
2 - 3 sdm kicap soya cair
2 sdm sos tiram

secubit serbuk lada hitam
aggaran 3/4 cwn air

Children Playground @ Tropicana Shopping Mall

Indoor Playground @ Tropicana Shopping Mall

Last Saturday, we decided to check out Tropicana Shopping Mall @ PJ just out of curiosity. We didn't really know Tropicana Mall's tenants but we figured we'd just go there to eat and walk about. Tropicana Shopping Mall is bigger than your usual surburbs shopping malls though I would say that the eateries selections are a bit wanting.

A few tenants that pique my interests are Ann's (shoe shop - super cute flats but none that could fit my foot type comfortably), Royce' (Japan brand gourmet chocolate) and some push carts at level 2 near Brickboy Brothers that sells shawls from Hong Kong that I was so desperately searching for :)

It helps that there is also Toy R Us, The Baby Outlet and 9 kiddy rides all next to each other so that the kids can hop in and out from one to another.

Foam Blocks @ Children's Playground; Jkids Playground and Kids Parties

The indoor playground at Tropicana Shopping Mall is called JKids Playground and Kids Parties. Nearby, are also Gymboree and Creative Robotics. It was a stroke of luck really that there is a children playground at Tropicana Shopping Mall, cos we didn't really search for it before going there. And it really is a plus that it is not crowded at all on a Saturday evening (6pm) Admission is also reasonable for weekends at RM30 per kid per entry. (RM20 per entry on weekdays) Socks are sold at RM3 per pair at the entrance should you or your kids did not bring your socks. There is also a drop and shop service at RM30 per hour per child.

Payground For Kids @ Traopicana Shopping Mall

At the time of our visit, there were about 9 kids at the playground, all of them friends with a birthday boy who had his birthday party there. Most of them were about ready to leave anyway. After 30 minutes, I think there were only 4 other kids there, together with my kids, that's only 6 kids in an indoor playground on a Saturday evening. That is so rare! I think this children playground is going to be our favorite hang out during the weekends to escape the maddening crowd at other shopping malls in KL.

Playground Fun @ JKids Payground

Although the indoor playground is a bit small with only 2 levels of obstacle course, I like the fact that it is widely spaced out, head space is also above my height which makes it fantastic for my back, I can stand while pushing my kid on the mini swing. Great!

kids activities
Mall With Playground : Tropicana Shopping Mall

I also love the fact that the balls' air canon (err.. thats what I call this any way) is in the middle of the pool of balls. Ingenious! My kids love it. They love looking at the balls shooting out from the canon, while they are knee deep in a pool of balls :)

Mall With Playground : JKids @ Tropicana Shopping Mall

I also love the plenty of seating spread all around the indoor play area. There's even one opposite the pool of balls.. it makes it so much easier to oversee your kids without being too tired.

Lockers are also provided free of charge with cute animals as the locker identification symbols.

playground childrens
Playground fun @ Jkids Playground and Kids Parties; Tropicana Shopping Mall

We spent about 1.5 hours there and still my 4 year old didn't want to go back. J Kids Playground and Kids Parties only provide a small baby changing station without water facilities. So, if your kids need to change, they need to head to the baby room about 3 minutes walk away from the children playground. The baby room provided by Tropicana Shopping Mall is also basic

J Kids Playground and Kids Parties are -in my opinion- good for kids 2.5 years - 4 years of age. 5 and 6 year olds might fnd it a bit boring for its lack of "challenging" obstacle course.

Roti telur lah paling senang! I prefer basic french toast resepi for breakfast. Makan gitu je pun sedap kalau nak makan dengan maple syrup and strawberry and blueberries pun ok, makan dengan banana and choc chip pun sedap jugak.

Untuk sarapan pagi ni, kita cuba roti telur with gula kurma + strawberries and blueberries dan kentang goreng rosemary with hot dogs :)

Penjagaan Rambut; Hijabi and Proud of It :)

Hmm.. siapa kata wanita pakai tudung tak perlu jaga rambut? Paling best sekali pakai tudung and rambut cantik lah :) baru special Mr Husband tengok @ home. Baru Encik Suami appreciate kita reserve kecantikan kita untuk dia saja di rumah kan?

Anyway, I memang dari sebelum kahwin cerewet sikit bab potong rambut, ingat lagi kecik-kecik makcik i practise gunting rambut i (Cos masa u dia ada amik hairdressing course) rambut I senget, mengamuk satu hari terus tak bagi dia gunting lagi rambut I.

Masa belum kahwin, kalau balik dari saloon, bapak mesti pelik apasal tak suruh dia gunting kan aje rambut kat rumah, free apa, bapak tanya "apa ada plan tak nak pakai tudung lagi ke?" eh, bukan apa, abah gunting tak style lah, hairdresser gunting ada technique betul tak? kita nak fringe ke layered ke bukan gunting straight je :p

So, sekarang setelah bergelar seorang isteri dan ibu, semakin perlu lah jaga kecantikan rambut kan? cuma problem lepas dah berkali-kali rebond (tak selalu pun, setahun sekali je) rambut dah kering dan tidak bermaya, I totally dislike it. Plus, lepas dapat anak, rambut gugur banyak.. pun tak suka!

Jadi, sekarang ni kalau rebond pun mesti buat dengan treatment sekali, selalu salon akan rekomen produk mask and shampoo and conditioner kan tapi for the past year since anak masih kecil memang takde time nak   lama-lama dalam toilet.. anak2 konfem melalak depan pintu bilik air.

Baru-baru ni, I decided enough is enough, I want my lovely shiny hair back, so after a visit to the salon, I dropped by Tesco lah cari produk penjagaan rambut. I jumpa dua produk penjagaan rambut yang best :)

produk penjagaan rambut
Penjagaan Rambut : Mask and Express Hair Repair Spray

Schwarzkopf Extra Care Hair Repair - Shea Cashmere Intensive Mask:

I love it cos cepat je 1 minit, tak payah nak tunggu lama2, dan I memang pakai shampoo and conditioner Schwarkopf pun masa terjuma @ Guardian dulu, sebab suka sangat botol dia yang kaler pink haha.. (Cuba cari @ Tesco takde pulak yang kaler pink) Pakai mask ni selang seli lah dengan conditioner, kalau hari ni pakai shampoo and conditioner, esok shampoo and mask pulak..

Schwarzkopf Extra Care Hair Repair : Hydro Collagen Express Repair Daily Treatment Spray:

Yang ni spray rambut, boleh pakai setiap hari and its a leave on, maknanya tak payah susah2 nak bilas lepas spray. Spray je produk penjagaan rambut ni pada rambut (jangan kena scalp tau) rambut pasti berkilat dan tak frizzy. I suka sangat spray ni, rambut I lembut dan tak kasar, rambut pun nampak lebih sihat. Baru konfiden sikit bergaya di rumah :)

Kalau agak-agak you tak nak belanja banyak untuk produk penjagaan rambut, boleh jugak amalkan petua penjagaan rambut di bawah ni (hee.. I amik from magazine masa dok rebond rambut hari tu @ saloon)

Petua Penjagaan Rambut :

Hah.. ingat macam nak cuba petua-petua di atas, tapi bila dah jumpa produk Schwarzkopf di atas tu, malas lah pulak nak buat sendiri produk penjagaan rambut @ home.. so kalau u all cuba and it works, jangan lupa leave a comment di bawah :)

Produk Kecantikan Korea

produk kecantikan wanita
Produk Kecantikan Korea : Promegranate Baby Face Mask and Rose Water Facial Cleanser

Haritu tgh jalan-jalan di Tesco Mutiara Damansara lepas hantar anak-anak ke tadika, ternampak kedai baru menjual produk kecantikan korea "EcoPure" hmm. nampak macam menarik, I pun tengah cari pelembap kulit tangan memandangkan sejak kebelakangan ni kulit tangan agak kasar. Dah mula malas nak jaga kulit ni.. tapi nak kena paksa jugak mula balik penjagaan kulit since kita sebagai isteri mesti jaga diri kita untuk suami kan :)

Nampak pelembap kulit tangan "Milk Hand Cream" macam kiut je siap dengan gambar lembu. Try test sikit, bau not bad, macam gula-gula white rabbit haha.. tanya harga berapa RM19.90.. hmm.. bolehlah eh try satu botol..
penjagaan kulit korea
Pelembap Kulit Tangan : Milk Hand Cream  Dari Korea

Sambil-sambil mata rambang tengok produk kecantikan korea yang lain, tapi I sebenarya baru terjerat beli produk Dead Sea Premier masa holiday di Hong Kong hari tu, sampai sekarang belum cuba mask dia, cuma scrub je dah cuba.. so bila jurujual rekomen produk kecantikan muka, I cakap takpelah eh lain kali.. hmm.. tapi dalam hati nak try jugak.. oklah kita cuba mask 1 paket k?

Jurujual Danahan Ecopure tu kata kulit I tak banyak masalah, maybe kurang air je sebab dah nampak mata sembap, so dia rekomen Danahan Promegranate Baby Face Mask, pakai 2 minggu sekali 20-30 minutes.. bagi sekali sampel pencuci muka rose water.. ok! balik cuba ye!

Percubaan Milk Hand Cream :

Pelembap tangan basic, bau ok, consistency pun tak berapa cair dan tak tebal, kulit tangan terasa lembut bila memakai krim tangan ni, tapi long lasting effect takde lah..kalau tak pakai kulit tak lembut :p

Percubaan Danahan Promegranate Baby Face Mask:

Hmm.. pencuci muka biasa je, untuk kulit remaja yang tak bermasalah ok lah tu, tapi untuk yang berusia 30-an macam I, kurang sesuai..

Mask : rasa macam "tingling" bila pakai Promegranate Mask ni, panas sikit pun ada mula2 tu, mask dia tak kering pun lepas 30 minit. Pastu, memandangkan bahasa kat peket tu Bahasa Korea yang I tak paham, I pun tak tahulah nak basuh muka ke tak lepas pakai mask, last2 I tepuk2 je extra cecair mask tu yang di kulit i sampai lah diserap kulit.

Thai Massage Kl - Thai Odyssey Review

kuala lumpur thai massage
Traditional Thai Massage Kuala Lumpur : Thai Odyssey @ The Curve Shopping Centre

My body has been aching for weeks now and after nightly rubbing of stinky traditional massage oil, I couldn't stand it any more and asked Mr Husband if I could go for a massage.  I didn't dare to call for a masseuse to come to my place (for security reasons) nor do I dare to go to the massage parlours at Sungei Wang etc etc since I am not sure which massage parlours are legit and which are not.

But, I really need a good traditional massage where they use a lot of pressure and not just the aromatherapy relaxing massage cos my legs were really killing me. I felt like an old lady.  The only thai massage centre that I can recall seeing in Kuala Lumpur is Thai Odyssey at One Utama, so I decided to check out their website. To my surprise, they also have a branch at The Curve Shopping Centre which is near to my kids school, so off I went yesterday after sending the kids to school.

I took 90 minutes Traditional Thai Massage that doesn't use any oil but uses a lot of pressure, keeping my fingers crossed that I would be able to bear with the pain.

The exterior and interior of Thai Odyssey at The Curve (situated at level 1 above Coffee Bean) is tastefully designed unlike the exterior of Thai Odyssey at One Utama (which I find a bit cheesy). Once in, you are requested to make full payment first. My 90 minutes Traditional Thai Massage costed around RM115 (including tax), which to me is quite reasonable for an outlet located at a shopping mall and for the duration of the massage. Next, you are requested to change to their in-house slippers and then led to a feet washing area where the masseuse will scrub and clean your feet. Afterwards, you are led to your private room for the thai massage.

odyssey thai massage
Thai Massage in Kuala Lumpur : Thai Odyssey's Massage Room

There are about 3 private massage rooms, 2 couple rooms, 1 VIP room and 1 reflexology room inside the Thai Odyssey at The Curve. The rooms are dark and the bed is super single size as the masseuse will sit on the bed as she knead your limbs loose with her knuckles, knees and even soles!

The upside of Thai Odyssey is that, here, you don't have to strip down to your underwear for the massage, they provide you with very comfortable and big pajamas. After you have changed into their pajamas, you will be given a cup of warm jasmine tea (no sugar of course) to relax before the massage starts.

The downside of Thai Odyssey is that since the masseuses are all from Thailand, they don't speak much English so you are presented with a problem when you are trying to tell them which area of your body they aches the most and where you want them to focus the most. Thankfully, my Thai masseuse was very intuitive. When I first said that my left leg was aching all all over (of course what I actually said to her was "pain, pain") she focused on that leg for a good 45 minutes, pressing my stiff muscles from all angles. Her powerful strokes are like god-send to me. Thai Massage is a new form of massage that I have never tried before, my previous experience was only traditional javanese massage and swedish massage. I never knew what hard work Thai Massage requires. She uses her side of her foot propped under my calf to massage it as she pulls my shin down towards my body, she uses her knees to put pressure at my sole (never realize that the curve of our knees fits perfectly with the contours of our soles) and she uses her feet to massage my back as she grips my hand with her hands and pull my back towards her.. oh my goodness, yes some parts requires too much stretching for my comfort that I chickened out and told her to stop. But for most part of the Traditional Thai Massage, it was the answer to my prayer.

kuala lumpur thai massage
Thai Massage KL: The big bed and big pajamas and warm cup of tea!

The head massage was a bit lacking though, I prefer the shampoo girl named Zoey at Snips Avenue (The Curve Shopping Centre) head massage. man.. can that girl give you a mean head massage, your migraine will just melt under her skillful hands.

Another downside is the lack of relaxing music at the background hmm.. maybe they are scared that the customers will doze off after their session which was exactly what I felt like doing afterwards.

Post-Thai Massage, my limbs are still sore and I wonder if all that torture did me any good. But after slathering myself with traditional massage oil that night, I woke up this morning feeling much much better than the past few weeks. hmmm... maybe I should take up their membership next :)

Check out their website for a full list of their branch and pricing details.

Victoria Peak In Hong Kong : Wrongly Dropped Off at Peak Galleria Instead by Taxi Driver

Our Hong Kong Trip: Peak Tower @ Victoria Peak

If you are visiting Victoria Peak in Hong Kong and plan to take the peak tram up to Victoria Peak before enjoying the "supposedly" magnificent view from The Peak, make sure you know the exact location of the Peak Tram before you take the cab. We hailed our cab in front of our hotel, said "The Peak" and next thing we know, we are going up and up Victoria Peak and stopped at a taxi and coach drop off point at "The Peak Galleria".

Our Hong Kong Trip @ The Peak Galleria : Well, at least the kids enjoyed themselves.

At the Peak Galleria, we saw a sign stating "Observation Deck" or something to that effect and we asked one of the salesgirl there "Where is The Peak and where can we take the peak tram?" She said "this is The Peak and you can't take the peak tram up to the peak since you are already up at the peak but you can take the peak tram down at the other end of the shopping centre."  That was pretty much what she managed to convey to us in her halting english, though she managed to add that a lot of other tourists seems to ask the same question as us. Hmm.. we were quite taken aback at first by her answer as The Peak Galleria looks like a normal shopping centre to us (which by the way is what it is) and we couldn't figure out why would Victoria Peak gets numerous fantastic reviews on tripadvisor if The Peak Galleria was all there is to it.

View from The Peak Galleria

Anyway, the kids saw the playground and we spent 45 minutes there letting them have a bit of fun. Then off we went to the observation deck at The Peak Galleria, which was nothing special to us since the day was a bit cloudy. From the observation deck, we saw The Peak Tower which is what people meant when they say Victoria Peak, this is where The Sky Terrace 428 is and where supposed great views of Hong Kong can be seen, we didn't go up since the day was cloudy and reviews said the views aren't worth it on a cloudy day, plus the crowd was horrendous. We were also not very keen on Madame Tussaud's. So, we took the peak tram down to Garden Road (finding the peak tram tickets booth at The Peak Tower was also very confusing, keep your eyes peeled, the entrance is very small to the left of the escalator) and oh boy, were we glad that we didn't take the peak tram up! The incline was so steep I think my kids would be nauseous all the way up. Going down didn't present any problem. Views going down also was nothing spectacular. Of all the Hong Kong attractions that we visited during our trip, I'm sorry to say that Victoria Peak fails to impress.

If you are taking The Peak Tram to Victoria Peak, the lower terminus at Garden Road is a short walk away from Central MTR Station, if you are taking a cab, make sure you say The Peak Tram Lower Terminus @ Garden Road to the taxi driver otherwise you will end up like us at The Peak Galleria.
