| Southbank Parklands |
When visiting Brisbane, one of the tourist attractions that you should not miss is Brisbane's Southbank Parkland. Southbank Parkland is a beautiful place encompassing 17 hectares with 20 landscaped areas and a man-made beach. Imagine that, a beach in the middle of the city. It's such a contradiction, in front of you, you can see the sand and the gentle waves and you look up and you see Brisbane's city skyscrapers. There's also water play area that kids will surely love if your kids are like mine with aversion to sands on their feet.

I love the fact that the area is not very "touristy" but rather a park enjoyed by Brisbane tourists and locals alike. I saw couples there just relaxing and lying on the grass to read a book, families bonding, with father and son kicking a ball together or teenagers passing frisbee around. It was such a delight. My kids had fun too went running around the park from one end to the other.

Southbank Parkland is also within a walking distance of Queensland attractions such as Queensland Southbank Museum, Queensland Maritime Museum and Goodwill Bridge. There's also a plethora of dining opportunities on Stanley Street. We heard that Satay Hut there is halal but didn't check that out as we were in the mood for Turkish Cuisine that day.

If you come on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you should checkout the Southbank Lifestyle Market, they have an eclectic variety of stalls, beautiful sarongs and dresses, handmade jewellery, crocodile wares, home made sauces and such. There's even a stall dedicated to potty training. How cute is that?
The market timing varies; Fridays: 5.00pm - 10.00pm, Saturdays: 10.00am - 5.00pm and Sundays; 9.00am - 5.00pm.
If your visit coincide with the first Sunday of the month, try checking out Southbank Young Designers Market on Little Stanley Street from 10.00am - 4.00pm. Pity, my Brisbane vacation was at the end of the month.
